Big Sky Montana - Things to do in the Summer

There are so many things to do in the Big Sky area, that you'll have to spend at least a week. Enjoy a Scenic Lift Ride, Hiking, Rock Climbing, Horseback Riding in our mountains or stay in the resort with a Tennis match. Or, take to the rivers with Fly Fishing or Whitewater Rafting.

Golf

The Scenic 18 hole par 72 golf course at Big Sky was originally designed by Arnold Palmer and has a classic links style, winding along the banks of the West Fork of the Gallatin River. Tee up with beavers, geese, deer, marmots, rainbow trout and the occasional moose as your gallery. Re-live your best shots at the Bunker Bar and Grill, or replace your worst at the fully-equipped pro shop. Talk to our resident teaching professional while you're there.

Tennis

Two tennis courts are located adjacent to the Huntley Lodge. Racquets and balls are available at the Concierge Desk. Huntley Lodge: 406.995.5806.

Horseback Riding

Hit the trail with a reliable steed and seasoned wrangler. Guided tours from one hour to all day can be enjoyed in the midst of our wilderness areas. Wildlife viewing, scenic vistas and maybe even a colorful story or two are all included. Trailside lunches available. Beginners or experienced riders welcome.

Whitewater Rafting

Interlaced with rivers and streams, flyfishing isn't all that Montana waterways are known for. Winter run-off and brisk currents provide lots of exciting whitewater rafting as well. You can float through rollicking whitewater or gentle riffles, equipped with the safest gear and a knowledgeable guide. Trying to fit a lot into your day? Not to worry. Both half and full-day excursions are available. Rates vary from around $45-$75.

Scenic Lift Rides

Even when the skis get stored, the bullwheel continues to turn. Big Sky's scenic lift ride provides our summer visitors with a bird's eye view of the surrounding mountains. Bring your mountain bike along for some high-altitude riding. Ride the scenic lift round-trip for optimum leisure. Get a nice workout by hiking back down to the village on our new self-guided nature trail. Or tackle the summit of Lone Peak. There are many trails on the mountain and around the area to enjoy. The scenic lift operates daily 9:45am- 4:30pm June through October 5, weather permitting. Tickets may be purchased at Big Sky Sports in the Mountain Mall.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking in and around the Big Sky area means miles of back country scenery, wildflowers, wildlife, and few human encounters. Ski lift access and forest roads offer off-pavement, out-of-traffic experiences. There are 10 trails on and around the mountain on which to explore. New beginner and advanced trails are being constructed this summer. Downhillers can also find a plethora of trails to get their thrills on.

Hiking

Get acquainted with Mother Nature during your Big Sky stay. Peace of mind will return the moment you pull on your hiking boots and explore the miles and miles of trails in our Gallatin National Forest. Right at the resort, you can elect the easier route by taking our scenic lift ride up the mountain and then enjoy a leisurely hike down to the base on our new self-guided nature trail. Wildflowers, roaring streams, distant snowclad peaks, and clean, crisp mountain air.

Rock Climbing

Try rock climbing in the beautiful scenic Gallatin Canyon with Montana Alpine Guides (MAG). Montana Alpine Guides is Montana's premiere rock climbing guide service and mountain craft school. MAG will insure that no matter what the adventure everyone has a safe and exciting day. MAG has been serving clients from Big Sky Resort with professionally guided local rock and ice climbing trips over ten years.

Disc Golf

This isn't your grandfather's golf game. This is cross-country fun with a Frisbee instead of clubs and a ball. Tee off at the base of the gondola to play our 9-hole adventure course. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. It's free and rental discs are available in Big Sky Sports.
